Airline Safety Culture: Why Airlines Stumble During Rapid Expansion and Mergers

This blog examines why airlines often stumble during rapid expansion and mergers, even with good intent and strong ownership. Using human factors and safety science, it explains how organisational myopia, cultural disruption, loss of identity, and silence after takeovers quietly erode airline safety culture. Training lapses and line events are shown to be symptoms of deeper system stress, not isolated failures. Drawing on aviation experience and Indian wisdom, the article argues that restraint, listening, and cultural repair are essential safety interventions.
